Cvetinovic Named to Serbian National Team

AKRON, Ohio – University of Akron senior forward Nikola Cvetinovic has been named to the Serbian National Team for the 2011 World University Games, which will take place August 13-22 in China.

The Serbian National Team will play in Pool B, which will include teams from Hong Kong (Aug. 13), Russia (Aug. 14), Australia (Aug. 16), Canada (Aug. 17) and Turkey (Aug. 18). Elimination rounds are schedule for Aug. 20-22.

The competition is the first for Cvetinovic for the national team at any level.

“Nikola making the Serbian National Team is a tribute to himself and to our program,” Akron head coach Keith Dambrot said.  “I am not surprised that he worked hard and stayed prepared to earn this opportunity.  Players from our program have played very well in Europe and Nikola is one of them.”

Following the tournament, Cvetinovic will return to campus for his senior season.  During the 2010-11 campaign, he averaged career highs for points (11.7 ppg) and rebounds (6.9 rpg) per game and earned Second-Team All-MAC honors.  He helped Akron to a 23-13 record (9-7 MAC), the squad’s second MAC Tournament title in three seasons and the program’s third NCAA Tournament bid – second in three seasons (2011, 2009, 1986).

The Zips, currently preparing for their foreign trip, will play five games in Canada beginning Aug. 11.
